Bear Paw’s Cleopatra

Cleo is a continuation of our Nikki Maternal Line. She is the direct daughter of Reggie, sired by Rusty. She is exactly what we hope to create in a bird dog who has confidence and intensity, but who is biddable and eager to be with her people.
Color & Size
Cleo is a smaller-sized GSP. She’s only 21″ at the shoulder and 40 lbs. She is compact and agile. She is solid liver, but carries piebald, with white and roan base coats.
Bird Instinct
Cleo is very birdy. She has an intensity to her movements that allows for her to lock on and accomplish the goal. This is balanced by her love for people, creating an easy-to-train, dynamic bird dog.
Temperament
Being both confident and independent, Cleo has a very sound temperament. While she isn’t reactive, she has plenty of energy. She wants to please and be engaged.
What We Love about Her
Watching Cleo when she’s out is a pleasure. She covers ground easily, with a smooth, even gait. She uses her nose and eyes to dynamically take on any bird, lizard, or butterfly.
We’ve seen these wonderful traits breed true in her offspring. She is an incredible mama dog, attentive to her puppies and teaching them good, clean habits. She’s protective and gentle.
Reggie’s Legacy
Cleo and Jaster, were born from our last litter with Reggie & Rusty, her last two puppies, and they’re perfect. We hated retiring Reggie as her puppies were always a favorite amongst hunters, however, it was time. Cleo growing into an amazing dog took the sting out of retiring Reggie. Cleo is everything we could’ve hoped for: a wonderful bird dog, with a brain, patience, confidence, and a love of people.
We had to move our chickens out of the line of fire.
Cleo was so intent on pointing and stalking them that they were a little stressed out and stopped laying as many eggs. It took me a while to figure out why we were only getting half the usual eggs, but then I saw the establish dirt path around the chicken pen. It had Cleo written all over it. We moved them. Our eggs production has returned to normal and Cleo is now off to stalking other birds and lizards in the yard.
